Smart Paste in Model Driven Apps

Smart Paste in Model Driven Apps

There are many times that we want to copy contents from documents that we are working on into our Dataverse application. Normally what we would be doing is copy a single element at a time from our document and paste it into our app.

With Smart Paste, we can copy the entire contents of our document and let AI go over the document and put it in the correct fields. Let’s take a look at how this works. The first thing that we need to do is enable smart paste into our environment. This is done in the Power Platform Admin Center in the AI form fill assistance section of the Settings -> Features area of our environment.

Once we have the Smart paste turned on, we can create a document where we will have the source information that we want to add to our application. In the example below, we will have an acceptance letter that will add the person writing the letter as a contact to the application.

In Microsoft Word we will go ahead and copy the entire contents of the document. Since we enabled Smart paste, when we navigate to a new contact record in our Model-driven app, we will see the Smart paste button. Once we click on the Smart paste button, the system will analyze the contents that was pasted and place that content in the appropriate fields.

We can click on the Accept all suggestions to accept everything, or we can go one field at a time to accept or reject those changes. The video below shows this simple process. Try it out
